I have been sitting In Tacoma General Hospital ever since the day my water broke. yes they did a test to confirm that this is what happened.
I just want to know why I haven't gone into labor, and if this is normal.
There is still fluid surounding the baby and she is fine. they just did an ultrasound on tuesday to check everything.
I just don't know why I haven't gone into labor yet.

Your water is leaking, it did not break, trust me. If your water broke all the way they would have had that baby out within 24 hours, I know this for a fact, I have worked for an OBGYN before. They are keeping you in the hospital to keep the baby in the womb for as long as possible to increase its chances of survival and being born with as few problems as possible, especially the risk to the underdeveloped lungs. As long as their is fluid surrounding the baby it is ok, which means the water did not break all the way, otherwise the fluid would not be there. The last thing you want to do right now is go into labor.

well staying in hosptial is different... they can monitor infections if they should occur. but i know in my case.. they induced me 12 hrs after it broke because of the risk of infection.

sounds like u over did it, to make the waters break. and ur labors dont progress, yes it happens to some people.

this does happen sometimes. but as long as the placenta is still producing fluids, etc. to the baby you should be just fine till the doctor induces or you go into labor on you own, hang in there. goodluck with the new baby:)

My friend had a similar thing happen. Her waters broke at 35 weeks and she hung on for another 3 weeks before having her little girl. The hospital told her that she had actually had too much fluid to start with and in any case the amniotic fluid will keep replacing itself while the baby is still in there. It was just a bit messy for a few weeks!

Try not to worry, if the hospital are monitoring you and say the baby is fine then I'm sure you are being well looked after. Good luck!

Ok, I don't have anything to add, except to say that I was just at Tacoma General last month! It's cool to see someone on here that's close by.

Good luck with your baby, I hope all turns out well! :)

No hunny your not fake and please ignore the people that have no first hand experience in this matter and just write whatever they want.

My sisters water broke at around 27 - 28 weeks she was only 6 months.

She was in hospital till she became 32 weeks and was begging the dr's to deliver her baby. They did by c-section when she was 32 weeks!

Her baby was born 1kilo and 200grams but wasnt allowed to leave the hospital till he reached the 2 kilo mark which was in 2months!

Ok its not normal but it does happen! Hopefully your baby will be ok i know my sister had nurses checking on the baby's heartbeat every so often and they only deliverd her because they heared that the baby was in 'distress' i dont know how otherwise they would of let her wit till she became 34 weeks too.

Ignore the stupid comments you get on here and trust me as iv had first hand experience and it wasnt very nice.

Dont worry though i hope everything goes well for you.

Good luck and take care!

yah broke and leaking is not the same thing. When it breaks the sack the baby is in is pretty much gone, so the fluid can not be held in anything, your amnionic sac can still hold fluid, so your baby is still safe, if you are leaking just be thankful you can stay in the hospital and be monitored and that it hasnt broken all the way. You want to make it as long as possible until the water fully breaks.

Your water is leaking. It is not uncommon and doesn't mean that you will go into labor. Basically what it sounds like is something punctured a hole in the sac and you are slowly leaking fluid. If your water totally broke...you would not have any fluid surrounding the baby. A puncture will not cause you to go into labor.

They need to keep that baby inside you for as long as they can. At 28 weeks your babies rate of survival would be very slim. My daughter was born at 35 weeks and thankfully she was healthy and able to go home with us after only 2 days. We were lucky. Many babies that come that early often come with a host of problems. They say at 37 weeks you are considered full term. If you are lucky...they will induce you then so you can get out of that hospital bed.

Good luck!

Your waters can replenish themselves over and over once they've broken. I had a friend that when her waters broke with a huge gush, continued to leak throughout her 24 hour labour as the waters replenished themselves. Its actually a good thing that you havent gone into labour yet. Bub isnt fully developed till week 37. I dont know why your waters broke and then labour didnt happen but I think its very lucky that it stopped with jsut the waters and that your baby is safe and doesnt have to be in intensive care or something. good luck and I hope bub waits till its grown and i hope you dont get too bored in the hospital. good luck

i believe you, i knew of a girl in hospital with me who was in same boat as you, after 4 weeks of water breaking baby alexandra came out, all ok. the mum whilst still pregnant was having injections to reduce chance of infection.

wont blong trust me and good luck with baby, hope not too long, as hospitals are so boring but at end of it at least you will have you little baby in your arms x

The rupture of your membranes usually triggers labor, but that is not always the case-which is a good thing in your situation. Your doctor is probably giving you medication to help prevent labor as well, until the baby is more mature and would fare better outside the womb.

It is also possible that it was not a full break, but either way the membranes will regenerate themselves. It is completely normal. I wish you the best!
