My cat is 9 months old, shes pregnant. I feel awful cause she is so young. She has asthma and I have three other full grown cats. They play all the time i dont know if shes running and playing to much or not, I heard there is a good chance that all of her kittens will die because she is so young. Is there any way I can figure out how many I should expect? I took her to the vet and they estimated her to have a couple weeks left of her pregnancy, but he couldn't tell me how many kittens she would have because of her asthma. Im just confused and don't know what to do while shes in labor either. HELP!!

whatever you do and whatever happens just do the right thing and have her spayed so she will never have to go through this again...

honestly, the best thing you can do for her is to get her spayed today. she may not survive the labor.

keep her inside or away from your other cats sometimes so she doesnt over do it. its impossible to tell how many kittens she will have. just keep positive

I had a kitten named pricess. She got pregnant very young too! When she went into labor nobody saw her. We didn't find out she had them until one of my friends saw them behind the couch. She had 2 babies and they both lived. As for what to do when she's in labor, nothing really. Because of her asthma, you should keep an eye on her. If she starts to have trouble breathing take her immediatley to the vet. Keep one on hand just for "in case" purposes. Good luck!

My cat had kittens at a young age, and all but one of her kittens survived. There isn't really anything for you to do while she is in labor. Nature prevails. If she'll let you, you can keep an eye on her, but cats will often hide out before giving birth. Just keep a positive attitude. You will most likely be surprised with healthy little litter of fuzzy ones...

well 9 months is pretty young and pretty small to be having a litter. You never know if there are going to be delivery problems until the cat is in labour. Sometimes even large cats have problem deliveries. It is best if you can try to be home a lot around her due date. I would recommend speaking to your vet also and letting him know the situation and see if he is on call in case you need his services in the evening. Some vets only work 9-5 and are not available if your cat needs an emergency ceasarian so it is nice to have this all sorted out ahead of time. Because of her age she may also have problems taking care of the kittens. Some mom's are just too young and don't make the best mothers. You should have some kitten milk replacer and a bottle on hand.. JUST IN CASE.
Good luck !

Talk to your vet about potential problems. Personally, I wouldn't spay her this far along. Nine months is the average age for cats to have their first litter unfortunately. It is hard to tell the number of kittens without x-raying her but average litter is around 5 kittens. Keep her is the house. Get her used to sleeping in a box or a crate as cats have a tendency to wnat to hide their kittens in dark places. Good luck.

Your young mamma should have her own room now, as she is two weeks from delivery. Momcats like to hide their kittens, and you don't want her having kittens in the closet, under the sofa...etc. and don't want the other cats to mess with the newborns. Your new mom will be protective during and after the birth and may fight with cats that she normally likes, too. A bathroom makes a good room for expectant moms. When you are home, let her out, but when you are away or asleep, put her in the room with her own litterbox, food, and water.

Good nutrition is highly important at this time, and I doubt the kittens will die due to mom's age, so as a young mom, she will need extra nutrition. When she is in her private room, she needs a good kitten food such as Iams kitten, for the extra protein and fat that it will give her.

She will also need a box to have her kittens in. We think a jumbo hooded litterbox, lined with towels, and placed in a dark corner of the bathroom is a good kitten box, because it can be cleaned and disinfected after the birth. Another option is the top entry litterbox, which you can find at Petsmart. Here is a website about this litterbox:

It is important to change the towels/bedding daily for the first week, and every 2 - 3 days after that, while the kittens grow up.

When she goes into labor, you will want things to be quiet and dark in her room... turn the lights off and provide a night light. You can find additional help and advice here:

Most momcats have their kittens without help, but if you think something is not going normally, call your vet.

When the kittens are eight weeks old, we at PuRRS rescue can help you find a low cost spay clinic in your area. We understand that owners can have a hard time with the cost of this procedure. We can also help you with finding good homes for your kittens, and providing for them to be spayed and neutered in their new homes, so that this won't happen to them. Our advice and assistance is free, and provided by experienced and understanding volunteers.

whenever the babies are old enough to eat the hard cat food you should sell them to some good friends cause the mom wouldn't have to worry about them.
