Question Queen has preggy friend

1 lady asked my friend, "If you're in your 2nd trimester, how could you NOT know you're pregnant?" She's 13 weeks & just started feeling the symptoms last week @ 12 weeks, & she went to the doctor yesterday, & it was confirmed.
I've known people who didn't find out about their pregnancy until the 6th or 7th month, & they thought they were just gaining weight. I've also known people who never knew they were pregnant until they went to use the bathroom, & their baby fell in the toilet & luckily survived. These are all TRUE stories from what I was told.
***Also, please answer this. How soon in pregnancy can the baby's gender be determined? I heard it could be as early as 12 weeks. Others say after 18 weeks.

When my first was conceived, I didn't find out until I was 10 weeks along. And, Iwas SHOCKED!! Ihad no symptoms and my period had always been a little irregular!! I've heard thoses toilet stories also...
20 week sonogram is normally when they ask if you want to know the sex.
Good luck!
9 weeks to go with #2!!

I know overweight people have had that happen to them more because they don't notice the extra pounds and ALOT of overweight people have upset stomach, pain, need to use the restroom alot. I hope I don't offend anyone but its true. You can tell the gender at about 20 weeks... some times a Little sooner but not normally.

I've only been pregnant twice but I've heard of this too. Just seems ODD to me but then again, mine were planned. I think it's just that sometimes women are trying to pretend that it isn't happening......IDK
I was able to find out the sex at approximately 4 months.

Both times I noticed around the 3rd month.
I can't imagine not noticing until you are 7 or 8 months pregnant. Um, I would be extremely suscpicious of not having a period for that long, be it pregnancy or some gynecological pathology.
Around 15 weeks or so they may be able to determine the gender. 12 weeks is too early to tell.

Right, because you of all people just know all of the "off case" pregnancies... you must be very lucky to have such a colorful life...
no woman would ever use the toilet and have a baby plop out... apparently you've never had children or even saw a video on the birthing process.... you have to physically push a baby out... it doesn't just fall out....

Two of my friends didn't find out until they were about 5 months pregnant. One of them even continued having her period up until her 7th month! I guess everyone's a little different..
Also, I think you can tell the gender of the child at 14 weeks. I remember reading it somewhere anyway.

my mother didn't know she was pregnant with me until she was 4 months along due to irregular periods and bleeding while pregnant. she didn't get the classic symptoms like morning sickness.
you can determine gender via an ultrasound around 18-20 weeks, sometimes a bit sooner. not at 12 unless you have gotten an amnio, as they can do genetic testing on the fluid and determine via that.

I haven't heard of anyone not knowing until their 2nd trimester, I have heard of people not telling anyone until then. If she went 3 months without knowing, then she really wasn't paying much attention to her body. Also, 12 wks is way to early to determine the sex of a baby. Sometimes you can see it at 17 wks, but not usually until after the 18th or 19th wk.

It is possible for a woman to not know she's pregnant until after her first trimester. I have a friend who didn't know until she was five months along. She had always been overweight, so the weight gain didn't phase her. Also, she had had fertility problems, so she was used to not getting her period. The baby is now over a year old, and is as healthy as can be!
As far as the baby's gender goes, well, technically, that's determined from the moment of conception! ;-) Okay, sorry...seriously though, parents usually can find out the baby's gender anywhere from 18-22 weeks, because that's usually when the ultrasound happens.

After a couple weeks and gaining another poind I took a pregnancy test.. lol

I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't know you're pregnant until the 2nd or 3rd trimester. Besides not getting your period, there are usually symptoms, although I acknowledge that not all people feel or have symptoms to the same degree. I've heard of people claiming not to know, but I tend to think they are more in denial than anything. Maybe too scared to face the truth. Also, all babies kick in the womb, so how would you explain that sensation?
My doctor knew the sex of my baby from an ultrasound at 16 weeks. It all depends.

I didnt find out until I was 17 weeks along.
I had no symptoms and still got my normal period on time every month. finally, when I was 17 weeks along I missed a period so I went to the doctor and it was confirmed I was 17 weeks pregnant. I was shocked! I didnt start gaining any weight until I was 22 weeks either, so that didnt help me clue in! I was on birth control so I had no reason to believe I was pregnant.
I have no idea how someone could not know until they gave birth though, how would they NOT feel the baby kick? Ive been feeling mine since 18 weeks and its so strong now (30 weeks) I dont understand how a woman couldnt feel that..
The gender of babies is usually told around 18 weeks.
I wouldnt trust it any earlier than that, although I know people who have been told at 15 weeks.

Yes , you can. They'll notice that you are craving a lot and that you have a little tiny belly but its kind of hard. Some people who have had children would notice more that people who haven't had a child. But you never know. If she's really skinny you more than likely would notice, and if shes a little bigger you would. I hope thats answers that.
P.S. I haven't had a baby my mom has 7 children.lol :)

A friend of the family did not find out she was pregnant until 22 weeks. She had no clue. They had tried to conceive for years and had no luck. She thought she could not have kids. It happens. Gender is determined very early, like within 2 weeks I believe, however, it is not usually clearly visible until 20-24 weeks.

I didnt know until I was 12 weeks along.
My friends all said that I was because I supposedly "had the glow" and I couldnt eat normal for like 2 weeks. also my blood sugar would get low anytime i started doing anything with lots of activiity...and im a very active person...and well..my period was missing but i was so busy i didnt even think about it. I had switched BC and thats how it happened...
When I had a ultrasound at 12 weeks we saw what looked like a labia...but they said it could change...we probably can find out on friday though!
I don't know anyone who was that out of tune with their body that they didn't realize they were pregs for that long. I think you have to ignore a lot of changes in your body to not know you are pregnant for so long.
The earliest is about 16 weeks. You usually wait till about 19 weeks or so as mistakes can be made if it's done too early.

It is very possible to not know your pregnant until your 12th or 13th week. My friend didn't know that she was pregnant until about 10 weeks and that was only because she missed her period twice.
As far as not knowing until the 7th month or on, those people are just fooling themselves. Yes there are cases where people have given birth in a bathroom, but the girl knew they she was pregnant she just didn't want to tell anyone. The baby kicks and moves, and you can feel that starting as early as the 4th month or so and it just gets more noticable.
The baby's gender CAN be determined as early as 12 weeks, keyword here is can but it isn't reliable I would say that 14-16 is when you can really tell but most people don't find out until their sonogram at about 20 weeks.

My cousin did not know she was having a baby until she went to the emergency room with intense abdominal pain. The doctor told her the baby was crowning and she was totally confused. She had no idea she was pregnant. She was not heavy (very tall) and went to the hospital wearing the same jeans she had worn to her graduation party. She had what she thought was a period throughout the pregnancy.
I honestly don't know how she could have mistaken the babies movement for indigestion (could have been denial).
My girlfriend (an ob-gyn) said 18 weeks and beyond is the optimal time or gender determination via U/S. Before that more chance of error.

I don't know of anyone who didn't realize they were pregnant past the 1st trimester, but I have heard all of those stories you have. i personally don't understand how it is possible to not know you are pregnant b/c of all the baby's kicking. my baby kicks 24/7.. then again him and me are both healthy. some babies do barely kick.. and so i guess overweight people might have unhealthy babies that don't move as much..also, some people describe labor pains as feeling like you are going to have really bad diarhea.. so maybe they jsut thought they were pushing out poop and pushed out a baby instead? lol.
as far as determining the gender, they didn't tell me until my 5th or 6th month..i forget. i know you can find out earlier like around 15 weeks though. and sometimes you may never find out if the baby isn't spreading their legs!

It's incredibly crazy and one of my biggest fears. I knew when I was pregnant the first two times and right now feel pregnant though my tests have all said otherwise. Oh well.
I personally know one woman that didn't know until she was 5 months. Her periods were THAT irregular! She had no idea until she felt the movement and went in to check it out.
As far as the person that said a baby will not just "plop out", uh yeah it can. I know two people that barely made it to the hospital before the baby came out. We're talking less than 45 minutes of real labor and having the baby by the time the got to the hospital. AND one woman I know DID have the baby fall into the toilet!! It was on the front page of the local newspaper!! And the baby was perfectly fine! She claims she felt as though she just had to use the bathroom, no greater pressure than that, if you can imagine!
Hope this helps some!
