View Full Version : 1st Trimester woes?
First pregnancy and super excited, I'm 8 - 9 weeks along, had first ultrasound healthy heartbeat healthy growth etc. But there's a few things i need some answers from. Pregnancy can be confusing LOL.
1. Flying - Could someone clear up the whole flying thing for me, Is it okay to go on a plane at any point during pregnancy? - Have a very important 100th birthday to get to.
2. These first two months have been exhausting, Horrible morning sickness (they should look into changing the name as morning is defiantly not the only time) and just drained, how did you deal with work and 1st trimester hardships, I work in childcare in a sport/ recreation sector and I'm finding it very hard to get motivated to go to work?
Just any tips in general with dealing with the horrible nausea and the overall changes you go through?

you can fly...
maybe you should talk to your manager about switching your hours.

you can fly up until your last trimester.
And with being tired that will get better in the second trimester and same with the nausea. But it will all hit you again hard in the 3rd trimester. But trust me hunny its all worth it!!

1. The traveling is fine, they do not recommend that you travel when your are closer to your due date as you could go into labor and not have your ob present. I flew on a plane when i was 8 months pregnant, drove in a car for 12 hours when i was 8 months pregnant as well, might be uncomfortable as you get bigger to travel and sit for a long period of time.
2. The first trimester is tough, i was very sleepy that was all i wanted to do, i am a full time student work full time and have a 10 month old daughter im 5 months pregnant now so at the time she was about 6 months old and needed lots of my attention and several nights a week we were up together. You just have to suck it up and look at the wonderful outcome. If possible on your lunch breaks or if you have a nice boss like mine try and get 20-40 min naps halfway through your work day, it helps out a lot!

My Dr. was okay with me traveling only up to 32 weeks. I have Kaiser so she made sure I knew where the Kaisers in the area I was going to are, just in case something happens.
My Dr. put me on disability in my first trimester (I'm in CA). My morning sickness lasted all day and I was unable to keep anything down. If you are not that bad...you can try ginger candy, vitamin B6, always have saltine crackers or something to much on(empty stomache makes nausea worse) and try sipping on decaf soda(ginger ale, 7up).
Congrats and good luck!

I'm pretty sure you can fly up until sometime in you 3rd trimester.
I'm 13 weeks with my second. I have had nausea 24/7 for at least a month now and I am so exhausted. It's really had trying to take care of a 1 year old at the same time.
Make sure you never let your stomach get empty. That should help with not vomiting. I know that when I wake up and don't eat immediately is when I get sick enough to throw up, mostly. The tiredness will get better and better into your 2nd trimester. Try to get extra sleep at night. Hopefully the nausea will get better by then too. For most women it does but I've heard that there are a select unfortunate few that go through "morning sickness" the entire pregnancy.

Check with the airline you will be flying on to see when their cutoff is for allowing pregnant women to fly. I believe most airlines are fine with 1st and 2nd trimester, but there will be some restrictions after that depending on the airline (change in atmospheric pressure can cause premature rupture of membranes--or so they claim).
I had horrible morning sickness with baby #1. I found it helped to keep some crackers, granola bars, etc. by my bed and I ate something before I got up to get my blood sugar up a bit. Try to eat small snacks throughout the day instead of eating three big meals. Bump your bedtime up too. Making a baby is tough work for your body. You will probably notice a difference as the first trimester comes to an end. The morning sickness will hopefully subside and you will have more energy. If you need to, just put things on hold for right now. Don't worry about cleaning the house, etc. That will all be waiting for when you feel better.

You can fly up until your last trimester, and that's only b/c they don't want you going into labor on the plane. Nothing to do with harming your baby.
I had to work too, and man, it was all about the chocolate. I can remember getting sick in the afternoon in the bathroom, and walking out with barf all over my shirt and a lunch lady sitting there staring at me. I was like...'pregnant, sorry' She was so nice, saying we all go thru it.
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR! He can get you anti-barf medicine, which I took after 4 months of losing weight and barfing. I wish I could say it gets better, but we;re all different. Just drink loads of water. Being dehydrated can lead to false contractions and pain. One other thing that seemed to work for me (which sounds weird) was to always carry a yummy smelling chapstick in my pocket. If I got queezy, I'd put it on and smell the good smells.
GOOD LUCK!!!

As far as the flying, it depends, I've read that you are fine up to 36 weeks or so, however, I would definitely talk to your OB about it to make sure, also, if you are high risk for any reason or there is anything else going on, then you may not be able to at any point, it just depends on you and your body. So talk to the doctor to be sure. As far as being exhausted and the morning sickness, Get as much sleep as possible and if it's at all possible, trying napping, even power naps can help, Depending on how breaks work at your job, see if you can space them out, possibly shorten them so you can take more just to get a break. I've heard for a lot of woman gingerale works, also gingersnaps. But, for most, you have to find what works for you. good luck!

Ok, You can fly up until like 37- 38 weeks, The reason being is because the plane in the air causes your body to take pressure from your head to your toes.. Basically can cause you to go into labor. So, no flights set for those weeks LOL.
You're tired obviously because of your hormones, I have no idea when this will change lol. I haven't gotten there yet, I'm almost 4 weeks, I slept 12 hours last night and it's now 3:06AM lol
