I had a facial and had my arms massaged, is this ok? I am 6 weeks pregnant with a history of miscarriages.

It's fine. What do your arms and face have to have to do with your uterus? Hmm. That's one to think about.

Massage is safe throughout pregnancy. If you are going to have more, go to someone who has experience with pre-natal massage. The dangerous areas are the stomach and feet, so I'm sure a facial is fine.

Facial fine.... actual massage NO! There are many pressure points which can trigger early delivery. Not to mention masage releases toxins into your body so drink lots of water when ever you do get one. You should wait until 2nd trimester for a maternity masage.

My massage therapist would not even touch me until I was in my second trimester. She told me your supposed to wait until then, but a facial and your arms should be fine...

i know that when i got a gift certificate for a massage, the spa wanted a note from my doctor.... and they advised me that they wouldnt give a massage to a high risk pregnant woman..

if you have a history of miscarriages, you should be considered high risk, and see a high risk specialist doc to try to make sure you dont lose this pregnancy.

I had a history of miscarriages as well, and i saw a wonderful doctor who help me go to full term with my daughter.

I wouldnt worry about having your arms and face massaged..... it's probably for full body massages... and back and such that can cause you to go into labor....

google "high risk" and "maternal fetal medicine" and try to find a doctor nearby that you can see for this pregnancy.

The baby isn't in your arms or face. Besides they give fully body massages to pregnant women. There are even pregnancy tables were your belly fits in a hole in the table.

It's cool and if you do a little digging there are actually massage therapists that are certified to work with pregnant women and they can give you services that will help with some of the physical symptoms of pregnancy as you progress.

You are right to be concerned. Massage is safe throughout pregnancy, However, make sure and let your therapist know. There are certain pressure points in the ankles and on your shoulders that can cause preterm labor. Your ankles and shoulders have nothing to do with your uterus, but everything in our body directly or indirectly effects everything else.

I have been a massage therapist for 5 years and an esthetician for 2 years. Facials are fine and so are the arms and some parts of the legs but not full body massage. Most massage therapists are going to turn you down or tell you to bring a note from the doc. As for 2nd trimester a note may still be needed but the massage therapist can tell you what is best and may ask you some questions as for the 3rd trimester FULL BODY ALL THE WAY. Its great for all that muscle pain that you get in the 3rd trimester just make sure you get a pregnancy massage and not a regular massage you need to be laying on your side with lots of pillows and not on your stomach or back because that can be very uncomfy.

As long as you were upfront with the estitician and she or he was properly trained to avoid certain essential oils and pressure points for pregnant clients!
