I'm 14w 4d pregnant, and for the last week I've been sleeping terribly! I feel like I wake up every time I roll over. I have crazy dreams. On top of that, I can't get to sleep until 1 or 2am. My doctor said no mellatonin or any other herbal sleep aids. Has anyone else experienced this kind of insomnia in the 2nd trimester? If so, any advice?
Yeah! I had read all of that about being more energetic in the 2nd trimester, but now I'm just sleep deprived. I realize that I'm very, very lucky that this is all I have to complain about.

Yes! I am almost 24 weeks and I still get it some nights. The worst thing I have found is to lay in bed for hours when you just aren't going to sleep. Better to get up and read a book or watch TV until you start to feel tired, then try again. You can also try making sure you have a big walk (or other form of moderate exercise) late in the afternoon or having a drink of milk before bed.
Good luck!
welcome to pregnancy, that's totally normal, I'm going through the same thing. It is due to hormones.
i had my 26week apt. today and asked my doc what to do for insomnia because for the past couple weeks I have been sleeping for 5or less hours a night. He said that reading would be the best bet.
It allowes your brain to slow down and your eyes to relax also.

crazy dreams, and the baby kicking like crazy, a sore back because i cannot balance my back straight! i hear you!
just ride it out! i find a bath is helpful and reading until your eyes burn helps get a more solid sleep but depends on whether you have hot flushes, cold flushes etc. truly in magazines they state you should be feeling more energetic, hair glowing, skin clear, what a load of hooey! sleep deprevation is making me cranky, bags under the eyes, and hormonal to boot. but i love it. i am nearly 25 weeks so over the half way hump. i hope this helps. i am so happy that all is well for you otherwise :)

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I'm suffering right along with yah!
If you haven't already, cut out all caffeine. At least don't drink anything with caffeine in it say 2 hours before you head to bed.
Try to relax. Take a warm bath before bed, make sure your room is comforable.
Chamomile tea helps me sometimes. I hear it isn't to safe for the 1 trimester though~
Hope you can get -some- sleep too!
Yes I am 23 weeks along and I have bad insomnia at times... Sometimes I do not go to sleep at all. I do not have a real job, but I help my mother at her work. I also am a massage therapist (I only massage family for now though). So either way I need my sleep. I became highly concerned so I googled different aspects of being prego with insomnia... It pulled up some good websites with fabulous articles. The best one in my opinion stated to take a nice warm bath before bed, wear comfy clothes, keep a journal by your bedside that way if a thought is keeping you up write it down and then forget about it til morning, and if you still can't sleep try watching TV while drinking some fluids and eating a snack. The most important thing is to stay relaxed and rest whether you toss and turn at least you are in bed and your body is not on the go! I hope this helped it really helped me... I also learned when the opportunity presents itself SLEEP... I took a nap today because I felt exhausted and now I feel great!!! Congrats and I wish you the best!!!

Totally been there !! My OBYN gave me a list of medications that were okay to take..
nothing for insomnia issues though..
but he put Benadryl on the list as okay to take.. and even though that's more for allergies.. I got to where I took that at night because a hot shower and a couple of Benadryl and I was out like a light.. so give that a shot maybe. =)
