I've really wanted to buy an electric guitar for a while(since I was 9) now. My birthday is coming up so I chose a guitar from the Guitar Center website. Then when I talk to them about it, they say that they would get me a guitar from Toys R Us instead. Honestly. Even if ToysRus sold decent guitars, I would never buy from there. I'm 17. How do I talk my parents out of that and make them buy this guitar:

just tell them you really just want money and that you are starting to save up, then buy the gitar with the money they give you...
thats what i would do.

tell them to give u money for ur birthday then go and buy it. your 17, you should be able to choose what you like. tell them to stop treating you like and adult because (legally) your NEARLY an adult.

What! Usually parents try to make their kids musical no matter what! Hmm..
You need to bring out a serious impression of yourself. Tell them that you want to seriously learn to play a guitar even by taking lessons, musical people usually are highly intelligent (true or not? who cares - it sounds good) and that you need a good guitar to start with as crappy guitars don't stay tuned, they break and look ugly.
Also note that guitars from Toys'R'U are probably lacking strings and that they're too small for "big" kids (only if your parents understand sarcasm)

Hell, if nothing works, borrow an acoustic guitar from somewhere, learn someting basic and bang it till your parents ears break. Then you can explain to them that with an electric guitar you can use headphones so there will be no noise problem (yeah right, I didn't get this 500W amp for headphone use)
Good luck
edit: that guitar looks quite like mine. I don't play electric much these days though. I like to stick with acoustic punk ^^ Much more practical for playing out on the streets without an amp.

Well for starters, you can come up with a way to get it for your birthday than talking them out of it. you can ask to do extra chores around the house, speak with your mom about how you really feel about this guitar, cause moms are easier to talk to. If she really sees how badly you want this, then she'll just change her mind and surprise you.
