View Full Version : Why are evangelicals more passionate about abortion / same-sex unions than people who are presently in need?

I am an evangelical who seeks to put God's commandments above everything. I am still wrestling with the the question as to why should I be more inclined to vote for the candidate who condemns abortion / same sex unions and allows those to forget about the needy, rather than support the candidate who condemns those who forgets about the needy and allows those to take part in abortion / same sex unions.
If Jesus says 'hating your brother is the same as murder,' thus all sins are equal, wouldn't this be a contradiction to His teachings? Isn't this just a tit for tat choice?
I'm not trying to create a war, I'm just trying to find the justification for choosing a candidate ONLY on their status of these issues.
I guess I didn't think about the 'transfer' of funds when we open new social programs. In all actuality, we are robbing someone of their employment, thus stealing. Two rights do not make up for a wrong. I have found my answer...Cheers!

I would just like to know why fundies love to harp on gay marriage and abortion, when supposedly adultery is an equal abomination to their god.
You never hear about people getting shunned and demonized for having sex before marriage or cheating on their spouse...it's always the "we're all sinners before god" excuse for those particular behaviors.

I often think that Christian's are making un-Christ-like choices in voting against gay marriage, rather than for helping those in need with universal healthcare and the like.
Lots of evangelicals vote GOP for "Christian values," but considering Christ talked a hell of a lot more about helping than he said anything against homosexuality, it seems like they're voting for the wrong values.

Strict Christians hold strictly to the teachings in the Bible. No killing (abortion). No gay or lesbian stuff.

you need to choose a candidate that fits best with your life. None of them will perfectly line up with you, you just have to choose the one that as close as you can get.

I personally stay out of politics as much as possible. It is not my place.
As for Christians, it IS too easy for us to be sidetracked on issues...the issues are truly important, but how is it so many of us FAIL to know that getting a person right with God through Jesus is the only true cure for these problems?

This question is a bit loaded. Are you really evangelical?

It is simple and a Hisorical Fact, every nation that has adopted a gay Life style and accepted it has ceased to exist and every nation that has Condoned the Genocide of innocent defenseless people has been destroyed,
What we are trying to do is keep god's hand of protection on this country, for if abortion continues and Homosexuality is continually accepted, well..this country will be destroyed.

I am passionate about abortion. I researched what it was, statistics on it, the whole nine yards. it's life, not just a 'choice'. we kill millions of unborn children a year. Abortion is the worst thing that the world, the worst thing that the USA, has ever done. Ever. So when I see a poser like Obama or Hillary telling everyone how good a Christian they are, yet they are for something as disgusting as abortion, you may see why Im not too happy.
As far as gay marriage, this is just dumb. Homosexuality is morally and scientifically...dumb, sorry for being insensitive here but it's the truth. Of course, I put bad situations like ones in Africa and Asia (poverty, murder, genocide, etc) far above the homosexual agenda. As a matter of fact, I want to eventually be a missionary in Africa. My heart goes out to them.
And by the way, my stance on abortion is out of love, love for human life.
I do not hate mothers who abort their children, but that act is still horrible.
I do not hate homosexuals, God loves them and so do I. But out of love for society, I refuse to promote something like homosexuality. Just look around and you can see what a lack of morals does in a society.

Many of the social programs to deal with poverty take money from one group and give to another. Charity is one thing, but "Thou shalt not steal"
"Thou shalt not commit murder" covers abortion.
Biblical marriage would exclude gay marriage, but it can be argued that most marriage is far from biblical.

In our world, it seems we need someone to look down upon. We used to be able to do it with slaves. Now that we're truly getting rid of racism (no, not completely!), we need someone else to look down upon. Looking down upon others ensures our superiority. While I am aware of this, I still find myself doing it from time to time. I must not ACT on it or think on it. And I must pray for God's forgiveness and the help to think right about it, because when I do THINK about it, I know that I am superior to none and that we're all equal.
We can't look down upon someone in need. It requires compassion, which doesn't make us feel superior. It makes us feel responsible.
Please, please, please. Do something--anything--to help one of God's kids today, and every day.
Thanks for asking the question. It's a great one.
