Melasma during Pregnancy

Melasma is a dark or tan facial skin discoloration that is usually common in women and especially with women that are pregnant. The melasma is a disease that is acquired when the skin is maximum exposed to the sun. The common symptoms of the disease are dark and irregular patches that are commonly found on the nose, upper cheek, forehead and upper lip and the areas that are often open to the sun and the patches develop slowly over time making them dark.

Causes

The disease is most commonly seen in women aged 20-40 and in pregnant women. The diseases effects the forehead, cheeks and the lips and the disease is more common in dark skin rather than fair skin. The cause of the disease is usually genetic, due to hormonal changes and mainly because of exposure to the sun. There are no other symptoms of melasma other than cosmetic bruising and dark patches on the face. The disease is very much rare during the teenage years and it most commonly occurs in women that are close to the reproductive stage.

Treatment of Melasma

There are some of the easiest ways you can get rid of melasma during pregnancy. You should apply the bleaching cream before the sunscreen on your face as these creams contain hydroquinone that inhibits the formation of new pigments. These creams usually take three to six months to obtain a valuable lightening of pigmentation and so after six months you should stop using your daily bleaching cream. Sun screen creams are also very much effective over melasma. The most important part of treatment is sun protection, where you should protect your face the maximum. You can make use of the hat to shade your face from the sun.

Treatment of Melasma Using Home Remedies

Melasma during pregnancy can also be cured by simple home remedies that can give faster results. Take a cool bath in 20 drops of chamomile essential oil and lavender. Then apply some grated cucumber over the face and can also drink the juice as it is good for area near the eyes. Then get ready a thin paste of sandalwood and apply the past to the areas of sunburn. After some time wash your face with special antibacterial soap in order to prevent other infections. After drying your face apply some aloe vera gel along with cinder vinegar or plantain that will help in healing. Then get some milk with a little lemon juice and apply it to the sunburn areas with cotton. There are also some of the basic bathing ideas you can follow to heal your melasma. Before taking a bath make sure to apply coconut or neem oil to your body. If you are going to swim in an open swimming pool or in the sea apply plenty of sun screen lotion before and after you get into the water.
