Content
It is difficult for a woman to conceive after menopause because she stops producing eggs in her ovaries which makes her unable to become pregnant naturally. Though the eggs surrender to the biological clock pregnancy can be still achieved using donor eggs. Most of the women find younger and healthy women from who to borrow an egg and get it implanted in their own uterus with medical assistance. There are two biological clocks which a women faces, one for the ovary and another for the reproductive system. Although the biological clock for the ovary has a limited life span the biological clock for the reproductive system seems to go on especially if the woman is healthy and fit medically. To achieve positive results all that the doctors do is a little priming with the hormones progesterone and estrogen which can be followed by implanting the donated egg which is fertilized. There were 45 successful attempts out of 121 experiments tried. There are no real medical reasons not to get pregnant after 50 unless it is the amount of energy and enthusiasm that is required for raising a child and the objections that may be raised by certain sections of society. These can be overcome if the woman is healthy, fit and confident of carrying forward the pregnancy with as much interest as a younger one and gets the required support for it.
Precautions
There are a few complications which can occur in a pregnancy after 50 which one cannot ignore. Most of the women delivering after 50 years of age had cesarean operations as compared to normal deliveries. In addition to this a number of women developed pregnancy diabetes called gestational diabetes which generally occurs due to stress and is found at a lesser rate in younger women. There are higher cases of women developing high blood pressure in their late 40’s or 50’s which can pose to be a risk for the baby as well as for the doctors who are medically treating you during your pregnancy. There are some women who have late menopausal age and can consider having a normal pregnancy if you still continue getting your periods and are medically fit with no sign of blood pressure, diabetes or other such ailments. However since it is a late pregnancy there is a need to get proper medical assistance in order to have a safe and healthy pregnancy at 50.
