Sculptures are not only three dimensional objects of art that are made by man. Sculptures are usually made to honor someone or to recognize something. These could be anything from the work of an individual to the beauty of a lady. Sculptures are a common part of our history. In fact in some cultures sculptures were also made to honor Gods and Goddesses. This trend continues even today. In most countries around the world idol worship is prevalent and this where sculptures come into the picture.

Sculptures to a great extent also tell us about the history of the land. Historical sculptures dedicated to Gods or Goddesses, or for that matter made to honor them, were sacred. Sacred historical sculptures of Gods and Goddesses are more common in the east than in the west. These Sculptures today help us understand history better. Whatever the reason may be, these sacred historical sculptures add to the architectural heritage of any country.
