Working Full Time through Pregnancy

Introduction

Whether you are working out of choice or necessity it is important to remember that you need to take care of your physical and mental health during pregnancy to keep your stress levels as low as possible to avoid any complications in the pregnancy. Strenuous physical activities are to be stopped at all costs and one can continue working until the ninth month provided you take care of your health and do tasks that is least demanding. You can prioritize your tasks to make your work lighter and do not hesitate to ask for help in the house as well as the work place. Besides it is important to remember that this is the only period you can rest so make the most of it because after the arrival of the baby rest is not something that you will get very easily with the erratic timings of sleeping and eating of your baby which you will have to follow. The following tips can be followed to make your pregnancy smooth if you are planning to work full time throughout pregnancy.

Avoiding Nausea and Vomiting

The smell of certain foods can cause morning sickness so avoid these. Try and eat snacks and light meals throughout the day without stuffing too much food at one time as this can trigger your nausea. Try to drink more fluids as your body needs more water in the early stages of pregnancy and if you drink less water nausea can become worse. Avoid rushing to work early in the morning as this is the time that you are more nauseated and try and get a good night sleep to reduce fatigue.

Handling fatigue

This can be done by taking short and frequent breaks from your work and cutting back on commitments and activities outside the workplace. Prioritize your work to reduce your workload and complete your most important tasks first. As the energy levels fluctuate during pregnancy try and complete your toughest or high concentration jobs when your energy levels are high and the less energy draining tasks when you are exhausted. Be open to accepting help from others as you can get some time for rest.

Staying Comfortable

While working try and make you comfortable such as avoid standing or sitting in a particular posture throughout the day. While bending or lifting follow proper posture to avoid sprains and injuries. Avoid lifting heavy things at all costs but even while lifting light articles remember that there is a right and wrong way of lifting things. To reduce stress surround yourself with positive people and maintain a good sense of humor. Practice some relaxation methods, yoga classes for pregnant women can be of great help.
